Over 500 years ago, Ignatius of Loyola gave the Church an incredible gift: The Spiritual Exercises, a retreat that can be taken for 30 days cloistered in a retreat center or over the course of 30 weeks in everyday life. Thousands of Christians all over the world have seen their lives transformed by encountering the Triune God through this unique experience. I will be offering the 30-week version.

The purpose of the Exercises is very practical: to grow in love with God and become free to make good decisions about our to spend our lives. Ignatius invites us into an intimate encounter with God, revealed in Jesus Christ, so that we can learn to think and act more like Jesus. The exercises are based on the idea that we are here to love, praise, reverence and serve God.

An added bonus is that our journey, which centers around scripture meditation and prayer, coincides with the church calendar. We will be focusing on the Incarnation leading up to Christmas. Then contemplating the scriptures about Jesus’ ministry and miracles, before companioning Jesus on His journey to the cross during Lent. The adventure ends in celebration as we spend the last few weeks praying on the resurrection.

There will be mandatory information meetings in August. The Spiritual Exercises will begin the third/fourth week of September and end in early May. You must begin the first week, i.e., you cannot start after the start date.

Note that the exercises take about an hour a day, 6 days per week. It is recommended to NOT be involved in other Bible studies with homework over the course of the retreat. This is a deep personal, reflective work, using ancient prayer methods that will be new to most retreatants and will take time to get used to doing. Retreatants will also have a set time to meet with me 25 times via zoom for about 40 min. each, over the course of the 30 weeks.

The cost for the retreat is $500 and includes 2 books. I give a 20% discount to active-duty military and full-time ministers and their family members. I also have three $100 scholarships available thanks to my friends at Church of the Advent.
