A Worthwhile Conversation
When my dear friend came to visit last weekend, we had several worthwhile conversations. One was about how distraction keeps people from finding their purpose and walking in their calling. We discussed a recent podcast in which John Eldridge was describing the concept of benevolent indifference. My friend then forwarded this podcast to a few friends and it struck up more conversations.
Something about this brought joy to my heart. Then I realized, the Holy Spirit was nudging me to notice something….We were discussing an important concept that was not politically charged but very relevant. People are starving for this: for grace-filled conversations around topics that make them feel alive.
People are actually looking for A Worthwhile Conversation. So, I’ve decided to attempt a new group that meets once a month for this very purpose. Imagine 2-6 friends sitting over coffee and having a meaningful, edifying discussion that, when they leave, makes them feel like they want to contribute something to the world that is beautiful and glorifies God. The topics will be different every month, centering on a podcasts, a piece of art, or a brief article - not a scripture (I’m in a Bible study and Scripture meditation group) or an entire book ( I already have too many of those on my plate for school). Again, not be politically charged in nature but still relevant. The idea isn’t to debate but to discuss.
If you are local and want to join us, let me know. If you are not local, maybe consider starting a similar group. I think people are actually starving for a worthwhile conversation. Do you agree?
